Far Eastern
Affairs
Far Eastern Affairs is a quarterly peer-reviewed journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute for China and Contemporary Asia (formerly known as the Institute for Far Eastern Studies).
Since its inception in Russian in 1972 (in English – since 1974) the journal has become the premier scholarly publication in Russia that provides deep insight into and new information about the region as well as Russia’s role in shaping its social and political dynamics by attracting works from well-known scholars, practitioners, statesmen, diplomats, and analysts.
The journal provides in-depth multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary discussion of Russia’s relations with China, Japan, North and South Korea, as well as other countries of the Asia-Pacific region. As such the journal introduces its vast contingent of readers, both in Russia and abroad, to the region’s rich history and culture, politics, and economic state of affairs. It does so by providing cutting-edge research and commentary on a broad array of topics and issues of interest to specialists and non-specialists alike.

Far Eastern Affairs Statement of Publication Ethics
Last updated June 2021
Infoteka, as the publisher of the academic journal Far Eastern Affairs (FEA), is guided by the generally accepted standards of editorial and publishing ethics, peer review and authorship of scientific publications that are enshrined in the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
In turn, we recognize that the Editorial Board of the journal Problemy Dal’nego Vostoka (PDV), the publication of the Russian Academy of Sciences from which the contents of FEA are translated into English, is also guided by the above recommendations. Furthermore, we operate on the understanding that the editorial staff of PDV expects authors and peer reviewers to comply with the standards and practices outlined therein, as indicated in its own statement of editorial and publishing ethics.
Infoteka also assumes ethical obligations that pertain specifically to the translation of academic texts. First and foremost, we work to the best of our ability to ensure that the ideas, viewpoints and arguments expressed by the original author(s) are conveyed as clearly and accurately as possible in English. We do not assume responsibility for the accuracy of facts or sources, but we regularly verify the wording of quotations from English-language sources. Should we discover any inaccuracies or discrepancies in such quotations or cited publication data, our editors undertake to correct or annotate them as we see fit.
Overall, Infoteka recognizes the important role played by publishers to support the substantial efforts made by journal editors, and the often unsung volunteer work undertaken by peer reviewers, in maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. The publisher has a supporting, investing and nurturing role in the scholarly communication process, but is also ultimately responsible for ensuring that best practice is followed in its publications.
